Jasper

     Jasper, a member of the Chalcedony Family. It is a brighter, more colorful variety of Chert.  It is usually red or brown, but may also be green, blue or yellow.  
     There is also a Banded, or Ribbon, variety of Jasper.  This banded variety is often used for carvings, cameos and intaglios which show off its banded structure.
     Red Jasper sometimes surrounds an eye-shaped pattern of white or gray Jasper.  This is called Orbicular Jasper.
